A refined yet relaxed kitchen that balances functionality with tailored details and organic materials, creating a feeling of coastal calm.
This original beach home was purchased with the goal of an immediate renovation to bring a clean, coastal aesthetic to life. The existing layout featured structural posts, multiple bulkheads, and a peninsula that divided the kitchen and dining areas. A small island faced the backyard, but the homeowners envisioned a completely open concept anchored by a large-scale island for prep, entertaining, and dining.
To achieve this, the peninsula and partition wall were removed, creating a seamless flow and allowing for an island that now spans the full length of the kitchen—connecting the dining area to the rear patio while establishing an efficient work triangle. While key structural elements remained, the exterior kitchen wall was built out to conceal a bulkhead running the length of the house and to accommodate new full-height cabinetry. This adjustment also aligned the kitchen with the existing structural partition wall near the rear patio, cleverly integrating a pantry closet with double oak doors to add visual interest.
Natural white oak flooring and detailing on the pantry and island infuse the kitchen with warmth and organic character. Handmade backsplash tiles introduce texture with a handcrafted charm that reflects the inviting, “homey” feeling the homeowners hoped for. Balanced by matte black fixtures and accents, the space achieves a quiet refinement—thoughtfully designed to be highly functional, yet effortlessly relaxed, with an underlying sense of coastal ease.
