Silver Birch

A harmonious blend of warmth, light, and modern-industrial refinement.

This lakeside home was transformed to feel open and airy while remaining grounded through warm wood tones and subtle industrial touches that reflect the homeowner’s personal style. The existing dark-stained oak floors were refinished to reveal a naturally lighter tone, while the heavy stair posts and handrails were replaced with more refined oak elements. Selective black accents were introduced throughout to complement the original iron railing pickets and create a cohesive aesthetic.

The compact kitchen presented several challenges - multiple entrances, a jogged wall, and a window framing an unflattering view. By raising the window height, the design introduced a continuous stone backsplash and shelf, opening up the sightline above the neighbouring roofline while enhancing the kitchen’s functionality. Widening the main stair entry improved circulation, while closing an unused doorway defined the living area and provided the perfect backdrop for a new entertainment feature wall.

A bespoke narrow island anchors the kitchen and maximizes seating, creating a welcoming area for cooking and entertaining. With a focus on lightness and balance, cabinetry placement was kept intentional, allowing the floating hood, rhythmic wall lighting, and soft natural textures to take centre stage.

The adjacent living room continues this thoughtful detailing, featuring new wall paneling that aligns with the home’s original wainscoting. A large television, flanked by sconces and a linear sound bar below, introduces symmetry while balancing vintage character with contemporary refinement.

The material palette carries into the powder room, where oak, marble, and metal accents combine with industrial-inspired details to maintain a harmonious flow throughout the home.
