Technical challenges turned into opportunities, shaping a compact home that feels elegant and connected.
This south-facing lakefront condo, virtually untouched since it was built, was transformed into a warm, contemporary home that finally embraces its waterfront views.
Simple lines and thoughtfully selected materials tie the spaces together with quiet sophistication, creating a fresh and functional new beginning for retired homeowners embarking on city life after downsizing from their longtime home.
The compact kitchen underwent the most dramatic change. Once dark and enclosed, it was opened up by removing walls and a low, dropped ceiling. The new L-shaped layout maximizes efficiency, while a central waterfall island adds both sculptural presence and practical workspace.
Mechanical challenges were resolved by dropping a central ceiling section to conceal new venting and by routing island power through a slim wood column that evolves into a bar wrapping the island.
The primary en-suite continues the minimalist approach with floating cabinetry, a calm, neutral palette, and refined details, such as a curbless micro-lip shower base, a flush-tiled ceiling, and a seamlessly integrated uplift mirrored medicine cabinet designed to open smoothly into a recessed ceiling niche.
